What stays on the device

The diary, cover photos, language, and theme stay on the device. Entry text is stored in an on-device database. A cover photo is resized and saved in the app’s private files. Nothing in the journal is uploaded.

Photos

The photo library is used only when a person chooses a picture. On iPhone, the system photo picker can hand back that one picture. On Android, the system photo picker is used, and the app does not request broad access to the photo library. The chosen picture becomes a cover, or is shared only if the person asks to share it. It is not used to identify anyone and it is not used for tracking.

Sharing

Sharing is optional and uses the system share sheet. That share does not upload the diary. The rest of the journal stays on the device.

Children

DayDayLog is not directed at children under 13, and it does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.

Device backup

DayDayLog does not upload the diary. Android backup of this app is turned off. An iPhone backup the person has already turned on, such as an iCloud or computer backup, can still include apps on that phone. That backup is the phone’s, and DayDayLog has no access to it.

Deleting the diary

Entries and covers can be removed in the app. Uninstalling the app deletes the diary from the device. There is no account to delete and no copy on a server.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated date above will change with it. The app will still keep the journal on the device.
